CHAMBER HISTORY

In 1921, a small group of civic leaders formed The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce to promote the city as a place to visit, work and play. Through eras of boom and bust, the Chamber continued to play a crucial role in the development of “America’s Riviera.” While Miami Beach has changed considerably since the organization’s first meeting in 1921, the Chamber has always been there to help meet the needs of its home town.

Each new generation of volunteer business and civic leaders has continued the process of helping to better Miami Beach and contribute to the well-being of its residential and business community. The Chamber has come a long way since the days of its humble first office, essentially an open-air desk under an umbrella. In 2002, the high-tech Miami Beach Chamber Building was unveiled, featuring a state-of-the-art Miami Beach Visitors Center, a totally wired Chamber Board Room and prime office space in the heart of South Beach.

The Chamber Building symbolizes the strength of the Chamber’s community involvement and its history of working to positively contribute to the development of public policy. All of these factors work together to make the Chamber what it is today; the City of Miami Beach’s oldest, largest and strongest business and civic organization. Boasting more than 1,100 members and growing by the day, the Miami Beach Chamber is poised to continue its mission of advancing the economic, industrial, professional, cultural, educational, health, and civic welfare of the Greater Miami Beach Area.
